What does the SDS scanner actually scan?
You photograph the printed label on a chemical container. OSHA Scan transcribes visible text — product name, manufacturer, CAS numbers, the signal word, and hazard and precautionary statements — and separately checks visible GHS symbols. It never infers a pictogram from hazard wording, and you confirm or correct the result before saving.
Does it give me the official manufacturer SDS?
Manufacturer safety data sheets are documents only the manufacturer publishes. OSHA Scan can search trusted manufacturer sources and attach a verified exact-match PDF when one is available. If no exact match is verified, you can upload the manufacturer's SDS. OSHA Scan never invents or substitutes an SDS.
What is the AI draft safety profile?
It's an optional, clearly labeled AI-generated draft summary built from the label data and open chemical references — useful as a starting point for toolbox talks or while you chase down the manufacturer's SDS. Every screen and every page of the PDF marks it as an AI draft, not a manufacturer SDS, and a person should verify it.
Who on my team can see the chemical library?
Everyone in your organization. Hazard communication is a right-to-know program, so the library is intentionally visible to every role — workers, supervisors, managers, and admins. Only admins and managers can delete entries.
Does scanning a label use up my scans?
Yes — reading a label with AI costs one scan from your plan, the same as a job-site photo scan. If the photo turns out not to be a chemical label, the scan is not charged. Saving, searching, and uploading SDS PDFs are free.
Does this make me HazCom compliant?
It helps you run the program — a searchable chemical inventory, SDS documents in one place, and GHS hazard info your crew can read in English or Spanish. OSHA's HazCom standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) still requires manufacturer SDSs, labeling, and training; OSHA Scan organizes that work, it doesn't certify compliance.
