Why it matters
PPE is the last line of defense — it only works when it's on, in good condition, and right for the task.
Talk points
- Hard hats: check the shell and suspension for cracks; replace after any real impact.
- Safety glasses under grinding, cutting, or overhead work — prescription glasses alone are not rated.
- Gloves matched to the task: cut-rated for blades and sheet metal, insulated for electrical.
- Hi-vis on any site with moving equipment — faded or filthy vests don't count.
- Hearing protection when you have to raise your voice at arm's length — that's roughly the 85 dB line.
Ask the crew
- What task today actually needs a face shield, not just glasses?
- Whose gloves are wrong for the material they're handling?
- What's the loudest tool we'll run today, and who's protected from it?
"PPE in the truck protects the truck. Wear it."
